November is DIABETES AWARENESS MONTH
We'd like to take this moment to remind you that November is Diabetes Awareness Month, which means it's also Diabetic Eye Disease Awareness Month. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, approximately 29 million Americans age 20 or older have diabetes, but almost one-third don't know they have the disease and are at risk for vision loss and other health problems.
What is diabetic eye disease?
It is a complication of diabetes that has no warning signs and can lead to vision loss or blindness if left untreated.
What should you do?
Get a comprehensive dilated eye exam at least once a year. Ninety-five percent of severe vision loss from diabetes can be prevented with early detection, timely treatment, and appropriate follow-up care.
