Contact Lenses and You

At Bella Optical we strive to create vision solutions, tailored just for you and your unique vision. Everyone has different requirements based on their age, lifestyle and occupation. Your contact lens fitting will ensure your lenses and lens care regimen reflect those requirements to create an enjoyable and healthy wearing experience.

Teens and Contact Lenses

Contact lenses have many potential benefits for pre-teens and  teenagers, provided the wearer stays on top of daily care. There is not a minimum age requirement to be fitted into contacts, it simply depends on the patient and their level of responsibility. Together the doctor and the parents can decide if contact lenses would be a suitable choice. Daily disposable lenses are a popular choice, as they’re convenient and require the least care.

Always remember that contact lenses are medical devices that must only be worn under the prescription, direction and supervision of an eye care professional. Serious eye health problems may occur as a result of sharing contact lenses.

Reasons to Consider Contact Lenses

  • Contact lenses move with your eye, allow a natural field of view, have no frames to obstruct your vision and greatly reduce distortions.
  • They do not fog up, like glasses, nor do they get splattered by mud or rain.
  • Contact lenses do not get in the way of your activities.
  • Many people feel they look better in contact lenses.

Are You a Good Candidate?

While advances in contact lenses have opened up a wide range of options, there are still some things to consider when thinking of switching to contact lenses.

Contact lenses can only accommodate up to a certain power of astigmatism. Glasses can be made in any power, and accommodate any degree of astigmatism. Some people with astigmatism might have to compromise to the closest available power in contact lenses since they are not made in every degree and power.

Certain preexisting conditions can make contact lens wear difficult, but not impossible. People who already suffer from Dry Eye Syndrome, might notice their dry eye symptoms worsen with contact lens wear.

Some Things to Remember

  • Contact lenses, when compared with glasses, require a longer initial examination and more follow-up visits to maintain eye health; and more time for lens care.
  • If you are going to wear your lenses successfully, you will have to clean and store them properly; adhere to lens wearing schedules; and make appointments for follow-up care.
  • If you are wearing disposable or planned replacement lenses, you will have to carefully follow the schedule for throwing away used lenses.
